24-year-old lights up Christmas for the 6th year running with event in aid of sister’s memory
Graham Witter, the 24-year-old ‘Pride of Crewe – community individual’, has announced that the enchanted winter wonderland, Weston Lights Display, will continue for the 6th year in memory of his late sister. The essence of the event is to turn Weston into a dazzling Christmas winter wonderland from 1st until the 28th December for families to enjoy within the Staffordshire region, and has already received sponsorship from local businesses.

Graham Witter first lit up his home in 2013 for his sister Jessica, who suffered from Cardio-facio Cutaneous Syndrome, severe epilepsy, and multiple complex needs, and was captivated by colour, lights and sound. Unfortunately, Graham’s sister lost her battle in December 2015, and funds from the event have since been raised in support of the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice, who provided respite care and endless support for his family.

Witter, the founder of Weston Lights Display said, “I’m excited for this year’s event as it is a way to express how thankful we are to the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice. Their endless support cannot be appreciated enough and with the funds raised, they can continue to help those in need. It’s amazing how this project has turned into a yearly community event which brings everyone together at this special time of year. The generosity has been unbelievable, especially when entry is only via donation. This year I hope we can only at least match last year’s total of £25,870”.

Since 2013, the young fundraiser has raised over £65,000 and is determined to beat last year’s total of £25,870. This year Witter has announced a remarkable line-up of activities for the event. There will be personal visits form Santa Claus on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings (and the last few days before Christmas), inviting all children and adults to step inside his workshop and have a selfie with the big man himself. There is also the opportunity to indulge in Witter’s very own festive ‘Mr Whippy’, meet festive inflatable characters, relish the chance to show off a few dance moves while watching the exceptional light display, and much more.

Many local businesses have contributed charitable donations to the event, including the Best Western Crewe Arms hotel, who have been proud sponsors for several years. Other businesses include Swansway Group, Nantwich Veneers, Green Gem Agriculture, Mrs Darlington’s and Stapeley House Tea Room, the Weston Light Display is set to be the highlight of Staffordshire’s Christmas calendar. Starting from 1st December – 28th December between 6:15pm -9:00pm at Carters Green Farm, Jack Lane, Weston. Entry to the light display is via a donation.
